Occurrence of cystoid macular edema after uneventful phacoemulsification in diabetic patients without retinopathy: A hospital-based comparative study

This study aims to determine the incidence of CME after uneventful phacoemulsification in diabetic patients without any signs retinopathy and nondiabetic early post-operative periods. The present was a prospective, comparative, hospital-based conducted from December 2019 2020 Ophthalmology department tertiary care referral hospital Eastern India. All aged between 50 80 years either sex with cataract grade nuclear sclerosis II–III or cortical posterior subcapsular undergoing uncomplicated surgery by single surgeon were included study. divided into 2 groups. Group 1 consisted Type diabetes mellitus cataracts no changes on funduscopy group healthy non-diabetic cataracts. Comprehensive baseline evaluation including central retinal thickness (CRT) measurement using optical coherence tomography done all cases. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) CRT assessed week 6 weeks following surgery. Seventy-four Both groups 37 cases each. mean age 62.24 ± 6.36 63.30 6.39 respectively.
